Inkjet Printing Carpets
There are several methods you can use from printing onto carpets. Traditionally carpets have been printed using a printer called Chromojet.
Chromojet
Originally setup as spot carpet printing machines. Initial resolution 16.6 dpi, today 25 dpi.
Valvejet technology to enable dye to penetrate deep into the carpet pile.
Dyes are mixed on site using a thickener.
When Printing Polyamide / Nylon carpet is steamed, washed and dried.
Machines typically have 8,12,16,32 or even 48 colours.
2.2 or 4.1 meter width.
Speed depends on the number of jets.
Chromojet 800
76.2 dpi jet technology using 16 different colours to mix colours on the carpet
Dyes are mixed on site using a thickener.
When Printing Polyamide / Nylon carpet is steamed, washed and dried.
2.2 or 4.1 meter width.
Speed depends on the number of jets.
Printing Carpets using Inkjet
Typically inkjet has limited amount of ink that can be printed onto a carpet surface. Foir this reason we are offering low pile products that still enable inkjet to go 2-4mm into a carpet pile. We see 4 different type of methods for printing carpets using inkjet technology.
DS (Dye Sublimation)
There are 2 ways to use this technology. Direct Printing or Paper transferprinting. Both require up to 200 gedrees of heat to fixate the dye into a polyester fiber. Polyester is the preferred fiber for this technology as dyes printing these carpets will have the best fastness an clarity in colour.
S (Solvent)
Can be used to print on low quality nylon carpet. Meant for temporary use. Colours are not very vibrant on carpet (when compared to DS)
UV (UV Ink)
Although UV ink can be used on carpet it is best used on our floorvinyl qualities. Colour will bond very well to the top coating, creating a vibrant material that can be used for short term use but also for use up to 1 year. When adding a top coating after printing the vinyl, life expectancy can be several years.
